Montana voters cast a total of 612,075 ballots in the 2020 general election, putting overall state turnout at about 73%. The state swung heavily for incumbent Donald J. Trump, who won its 3 electoral votes with 56.9% of the popular vote. Montana has consistently voted for Republican presidential candidates since 1996.
Montana has a bicameral legislature with 50 senators and 100 representatives. Republicans have held the majority in both chambers since 2011. Governor Greg Gianforte (R) is eligible for re-election in 2022.
