House Passes H.R. 1

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the “For the People Act” almost along party lines.  Thanks in large part to the efforts of concerned Americans who contacted their legislators, not a single Republican voted in favor of this bill. The final count was 220 – 210, with one sole Democrat voting against the bill. Two Republicans did not vote.

Congressman Benny Thompson (D-MS) surprised everyone by voting against the bill after having co-sponsored it with the entire Democrat caucus.  In a statement to Fox News, he said that his constituents opposed certain provisions in the bill so he voted in accordance with their will.

“My constituents opposed the redistricting portion of the bill as well as the section on public finances.  I always listen and vote in the interest of my constituents.”

The effort to destroy our election safeguards now moves into the U.S. Senate. Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has already reserved “S1” for the companion bill, signaling that this massive election effort to federalize U.S. elections will be the Senate’s #1 priority.
